Thesevegan almond flour wafflesare crisp outside, tender inside, and straightforward to make in one bowl. They are grain-free, gluten-free, oil-free, egg-free, dairy-free, and high in protein, with a rich, satisfying flavor that tastes every bit as good as classic waffles.

I (generally) have two categories of vegan waffle recipes I make with regularity: (a) ones that are especially “nourishing,”and (b) others that are exceptionally satisfying. These are both!
I love everything about thesevegan almond flour wafflesbecause they deliver everything I want in a waffle: golden edges, a tender interior, rich flavor, and the kind of satisfying bite that keeps me full for hours. They also happen to be grain-free, gluten-free, oil-free, egg-free, dairy-free, refined sugar free, and high in protein, which is a very nice bonus.
Even better, the batter comes together in one bowl with no complicated steps, no mixer, and no waffle-making drama. Almond flour gives the waffles a naturally rich, buttery flavor, even without oil or dairy, while the plain vegan batter cooks up beautifully in the waffle iron. Add maple syrup, berries, nut butter, chocolate chips, or your go-to toppings, and breakfast is officially handled. Yes, please!

These vegan gluten-free waffle work great as make-ahead frozen toaster waffles (ideal for busy mornings and meal prep). Cool any extra waffles on a wire rack / cooling rack, then place in a freezer-safe container and freeze. When ready to eat, pop the frozen waffle (no need to defrost) into the toaster or toaster oven until warmed through and toasty.
Suggested Toppings for Vegan Almond Flour Waffles
These vegan almond flour waffles are satisfying with classic waffle toppings, but they are also sturdy and satisfying enough for heartier additions. Try one or more of the following:
- Maple syrupfor the classic waffle experience.
- Fresh berriessuch as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries.
- Sliced bananaswith a sprinkle of cinnamon.
- Nut or seed buttersuch as almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter.
- Vegan yogurtfor a creamy, tangy contrast.
- Fruit compote or jamfor extra sweetness and color.
- Chopped nuts or seedsfor crunch.
- Mini chocolate chipsfor a treat-like breakfast.
- Powdered sugarfor a plain, pretty finish.
- Coconut whipped creamfor a brunch-worthy option.
For a more filling breakfast, I love these with almond butter, berries, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Ingredient Substitutions
- Maple Syrup: An equal amount of agave nectar, date syrup, or brown rice syrup can be used in place of the maple syrup. Alternatively, use 1 tablespoon coconut sugar or brown sugar plus an extra 2 teaspoons water in place of the 1 tablespoon maple syrup.
- Chickpea Flour:If you do not follow a gluten-free diet, substitute an equal amount of all-purpose wheat flour.
- Non-Dairy Milk:If you don not follow a dairy-free diet, use an equal amount of dairy milk. You can also use an equal amount of water.
- Almond Flour:An equal weight almond meal can be used. The waffles will have a heavier texture when made with meal. For reliable results, use a finely ground almond flour, such as blanched almond flour.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Are these grain-free vegan waffles Paleo? No, because of the chickpea flour. Legumes, such as chickpeas, are not part of a Paleo diet.
- Can I use flaxseed meal or tapioca flour in place of the chickpea flour?I have not tested it, but I do not think either will work as 1:1 substitutes.
